2013 Au Pair of the Year!

August 31, 2013

We’re pleased to announce the 2013 InterExchange Au Pair of the Year contest!

Every year we recognize one InterExchange Au Pair of the Year who demonstrates the best qualities of the InterExchange Au Pair USA program.

For this year’s contest, we’re looking for stories of au pairs who have contributed to the family as a team player during the program. Your entry should show how, in addition to regular child care duties, your au pair made a special commitment to finding new ways to contribute to your family “team”.

Did she easily adapt to your family’s personalities, schedule and lifestyle? Did he introduce customs from his country to add to your family’s own traditions? What else did your au pair do to support the development of your family’s team?

If your story wins, your au pair could become the InterExchange Au Pair of the Year for 2013! The winning prize for the au pair is a trip to Chicago, IL during the 2013 InterExchange Au Pair USA Conference in November, plus $200 spending money!

We love hearing from both the au pair and the host family, so we encourage you to work together as a team and even submit joint essays with information from both the au pair and your family!

To enter, submit a 400-850 word essay detailing how your au pair worked together with your family during the au pair program and how you have benefited from hosting an international au pair. This contest is open to any au pair still living and working with the host family as of November 6, 2013. All essays must be received by InterExchange no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on September, 30, 2013. Read the Au Pair of the Year official rules and enter to win!

We look forward to hearing and seeing your stories about how your au pair became a member of your family “team” this year!

AP2173

My host father is a great, interested father and I can’t get over how much effort he puts into running the kids’ baseball programme! He never hesitates in helping me out when I need something and has driven me to, and picked me up from, many an adventure.

Host Dad Michael, Millie from the UK

My host Dad is awesome. He is the smartest person I know and is always willing to help me out and recommend things that I can do.     He’s a loving and patient Father and him and my Host Mum make a great team!

Host Dad David, Brooke from New Zealand

Fernando, you’re an amazing dad. It goes without saying that the boys adore you, from playing soccer to whittling sticks and reading books, they love every minute they get to spend with you. I love the warm spring and summer days when we can all do stoop-time and chat with our neighbors. You always make time to talk to people you care about… Let’s face it, you’re awesome! 🙂 Happy Father’s Day, have a good one!

Host Dad Fernando, Nathalie from Belgium

Ethan is great. On extraordinary and diverse educated person. With that very interesting to talk with him and he contributes to this in every way. And this leads to the promotion of what I feel right at home. In addition, he is very attentive to his family. A loving father and husband. Happy fathers day Ethan.

Brooklyn Host Moms Are the Best!

May 9, 2013

In honor of Mother’s Day, see why a few of our Brooklyn Au Pairs think their host mothers are the greatest!

Au Pair & Child

Carla is an amazing mom, she goofs around with her sons, exposes them to new things, great books and amazing food. When she gets home she is all mom and ready to have fun and hang out. She challenges me to cook dishes I have never made before and because of that I turned into a pretty decent food preparer 🙂 She is an amazing woman and wonderful mom and I wish her an unforgettable mother’s day!’

-Host Mom Carla, Au Pair Nathalie from Belgium

My host mother is one of the strongest women I know, with the biggest heart for those she cares about. Her children are her number one priority at all times and their happiness is paramount. There are not many women who would do as much as Mary Ann does for the people she loves. I have a huge amount of affection and respect for my host mama, and I can’t thank her enough for the experience she is giving me.

-Host Mom Mary Ann, Au Pair Millie from England

I admire my host Mum because she does it all. She is kind, thoughtful,
helpful and organised. She always respects my decisions and backs me
up and is a great mother to the kids as well as the best host Mum I
could ask for.

-Host Mom Ileen, Au Pair Brooke from New Zealand

Lorna, is a great woman and fortunately she is the one that I’m working for, I really learning do many things with her as cook, be happy, she is this kind of person that even if she is not feeling good at all she always has a nice smile and helpful ideas.

Her heart is pretty big and she is always worry about the people around her, even looking for then first than for herself , for my this year and 6 months with her were totally awesome and I just can say that I will miss her and her kids to because they made me felt part of them

– Host Mom Lorna – Au Pair Claudia, from Mexico

Anna is honest and good-natured, not too lazy to answer my questions. She takes care of me and helps in difficult situations. And with Anna we can just talk as two adult person.

-Host Mom Anna, Au Pair Diana from Armenia

How to Make a Doctor’s Appointment

February 5, 2013
If you need to go to the doctor, the easiest way to find a doctor that takes your insurance and make an appointment is to use Zocdoc.
On the Main Zoc Doc Webpage Select the Following:
  • Find a Doctor/Dentist by Specialty: Primary Care Doctor
  • In: Enter your Zip Code (Postal Code)
  • Who Participates in: Choice Care Network
  • Choose a Plan: ChoiceCare Network PPO
A list of doctors and available appointment times will then come up on the screen for you to choose from.

As an alternative you can call the health insurance company directly and/or use their search engine and they will give you the name of a doctor.
If anyone asks what your PPO is or what type of insurance you have, the answer is: Choice Care Network
